About Me
Explore, Listen, Learn, Educate
My name is Mikaela Manley, and I am a Secondary School Science teacher. I have worked TVO ILC as an Academic Officer, and am now moving onto to new adventures! Although I finished my Master of Teaching in 2021, I've spent the better part of the last decade absorbed in the world of science education and environmental/outdoor education.

My journey begins with my family.
I grew up in a family who lived for the outdoors, and was instilled with their love for the natural - exploration and adventure, foraging for mushrooms and plants, finding solace in the quiet of a forest or alone in a canoe on the lake, family hockey games on local frozen rivers.

My family instilled in me a deep love and appreciation for the natural world. They supported the growth of us, the youngest generation, peacefully and respectfully alongside nature, not in conflict with it.

It is this appreciate, love, and connection with Earth and our natural spaces that I endeavour to instill in my students.

And continues well beyond this past and present
I've spent the last decade of my life growing, changing, and forming a deeper appreciation and understanding of my place personally and professionally.

I've explore remote places around the world alone and alongside my sister, my adventure partner. I've spent time devoted to environmentally preservation with organizations such as the Quetico Foundation, community cleanups and sustainability efforts, teaching and practicing LNT (leave no trace) camping as a Camp Director, and taking deep dives into de-colonizing my understandings and actions by listening to Indigenous community members and literature.

I have a long, long way to go. But I hope you'll join me as I learn, grow, and continue to take critical looks at my own role as a science and sustainability educator and community member.
